Ajani Snelling did a great job engaging his readers in this all-too-real tale of what happens to families when individuals choose to take the beaten path of life. I felt every emotion of the characters, and could clearly envision what the parents of the Burns children felt as they watched their offspring make bad choices with severe consequences. I found this book to be very thought provoking and a must read. -  Sistah Shawn

Sexuality, the true essence of nature and human attraction. It is the trait that draws you to that guy with an average face but the swagger of a king, or that girl who’s so quiet and reserved yet assertive. Sexpressions captures these attractions. It is a collection of short stories that ranges from romantic and sweet to raunchy and wild. Swington knows how to give you variety, which makes you wonder what’s to come. My only complaint would be the many grammatical errors. If the work is well-written, an explanation for errors is not needed. - Sistah Crystal

When the young and bashful Mildred Johnson is forced to join a political campaign to elect Chicago ‘s first Black mayor, she is faced with a life-altering dilemma: either continue to bury her emotions in a private journal or become a woman! Empowered by her elderly aunt’s passion and the love of a sexy, dashiki wearing political activist, Mildred embarks on an emotional journey that not only teaches her to embrace the bitter realities of her past but to also acknowledge and accept her own self-worth.
In Some Glad Morning , I was taken back to a time when men respectfully pursued a woman for the fruit of her mind, not just the lushness of her body; young people acknowledged the past struggles of their ancestors and fought endlessly for the continued advancement of their community; and, the community was the family, united in one cause. Steele enables readers to taste the exhilaration of change as well as the pain in the struggle for justice. Though in the beginning the storyline’s movement was slow and there was some plot confusion, I was able to experience the characters’ growth throughout the novel. All in all, Steele has crafted an inspirational message that will empower all, regardless of race, to embrace change. -  Sistah Tasha

In Cross Realities, Novel I, Ricky Teems II does an excellent job depicting the struggles of a young Christian couple who, while living as a product of their environment, continue to be tested spiritually. The author does a great job reeling us in from the very beginning to the end. This novel is fast-paced, drama-filled, and action-packed. I was often on the edge of my seat and almost in tears at times while impatiently waiting to read what would happen next. Imagine how I felt when the story ended and no one situation in the novel had been resolved?

I can’t wait to read Novel II so I can find out the fate of the characters I’ve grown to know. Cross Realities was an awesome read and a definite page turner! I can honestly say that hands down this is the best Christian fiction novel I have ever read! I am truly impressed and extremely excited to read the next novel in the Trilogy! - Sistah Shawn

By human nature, we love to peek into the lives of others, taste their drama, and secretly compare theirs to ours. In Missed Opportunities, you’re allowed to indulge in this guilty pleasure. You’ll witness the interlocking lives of Monica, the stuck-up, overweight “manizer”; Tamara, the young and beautiful “hopelessly in love” college student; Darla, the overweight, compassionate friend who learns a lesson in loving herself; and Brandy, the smack talking “around the way” girl.

LaTonya Williams tackles emotional issues such as obesity, self-esteem, domestic abuse, single parenthood, the downward spiral of recreational drug use . . . just to name a few. Each character’s story is presented in a real world manner that makes you think, “Have I met her before?”

Overall, the characters’ stories function more as a collection of short-stories rather than a novel. My greatest concern is that the back page synopsis does not do the storyline justice; Barron is not written as a main character and his story’s description is incorrect. Though at times I felt as if I were in a time warp and almost became depressed by Brandy’s storyline, the drama was entertaining and there were some wonderful elements of surprise. -  Sistah Tasha
