Bentley L. Dean has it all: financial stability, family support, and the arm of ravishing fiancée—until he announces a spirit-freeing secret that devastates his family and ultimately destroys his livelihood. Strapped with only his honor and the lessons in life his beloved father taught him, Dean is forced to start over, rebuild his life while searching for answers through unpleasant memories.

With a smooth pace and warm writing style, Harris tells a remarkable story through vivacious characters that jump off the pages into your heart. Bentley’s passion for life and compassion for others captured me from the beginning, and refused to let me go until the bittersweet end. In My Father’s House is a beautiful story about redemption, and the fight for justice. . . and love. - Sistah Tasha

Take Charge: A Woman’s Guide to a Healthier Heart is a very informative and practical guide on how to take better care of your heart health. There are charts that provide you with healthy food suggestions and very detailed definitions of “good” fats and “bad” fats. The authors have included pages for you to record important information such as doctors’ numbers, blood type, blood pressure, medications and dosages as well as the healthy ranges for bloodwork components. Overall, I think this is a quick read and an excellent reference guide to have in your health library. - Sistah Tashmir

Shay Nolon’s debut novel does not disappoint. I have to admit when I read the synopsis on the back of the book, I had no idea I would be taken for such a ride. Although a short 161 pages, Everything You Owe Me was entertaining and gave a realistic glimpse into the common problems of relationships amongst families, friends and lovers. Tosha and Dannay’s situations happen all the time with people falling out of love with each other and even with infidelity occuring within the confines of family. Although I hoped for a more positive ending for Tosha, Shay’s description of her background helped me to understand her fate. I look forward to Nolon’s sophomore title. - Sistah Connie

Det. Lorenzo Love, leader of the narcotics unit called Ghost Squad, has gotten cocky in his personal and professional life, which leads him down a path of no return. He feels he is invincible, but not by his own fault. His squad follows his directives without questions, and his wife, Nina Love, doesn’t have a clue, at least that’s what I thought. Nina was a floormat and appeared to be weak and spineless, or was it merely an act?

Scott delivered a capitivating tale of murder, sex, and corruption. The descriptions of the murder scenes had my heart pounding; I was grabbing my body parts as if I was the one being sliced. The words came alive… The characters were so real… The cliffhangers left me reeling. I just knew who the murderer was from the hints and clues but I was so far off. The unveiling of the murderer was apropos, I could not believe it. Assume nothing. - Sistah Rita

It Ain’t Cute but It’s Real is a compilation of stories from seven women on living, loving, and learning. Each of the ladies share personal tales that have shaped and molded them into the women they have become and are still becoming. The stories come from women of different generations, geographic locations, and experiences with one common thread–that life ain’t cute but it’s real. The body of work was well written with few grammatical errors. The experiences are relatable and I could find resemblances of my life in all seven stories. I laughed, I cried, and more importantly, I reflected. -  Sistah Tashmir

I love you… I hate you… I can’t stand you… I can’t live without you… In Love on the Rocks, Pamela Yaye eloquently captures the mood of two scorned lovers who are too hardheaded to realize that their bickering only fuels the passion they’d had for each other from day one.

Tangela Howard, the devoted homemaker turned career go-getter, reunites with Warrick Carver, the debonair business mogul in an up-and-down romance that reminded me of a sexy sitcom. Though at times I found the banter between outside friends a bit too polished, the love affair between Tangela and Warrick blossomed out of a well-developed plot and rich characterization. For me, Love on the Rocks was a delightful, Sunday afternoon treat. - Sistah Tasha

I’m always a bit skeptical when reading the last in a series . . . There’s always the question of whether the author can truly deliver an impact and soundly give readers closure. With Sins of the Mother, Victoria Christopher Murray proved why she is a leader in her genre. I’ve always been a fan of her writing style—the compact storylines with characters so real they can jump off the page. . . Her masterful storytelling had me up until 2am, on the brink of reading insanity!

Anyone who knows Jasmine knows she thrives off of control. However, in this novel, circumstances are simply out of her hand. She’s at the will of God and the mercy of all those in her life, including a few enemies. As loved ones struggle to hold on to a glimmer of hope for little Jacqueline’s return, Murray delivers to readers a powerful message of love, forgiveness, and the ultimate faith in God—without being too preachy. Fans of Jasmine’s theatrics and Hosea’s passion for “doing the right thing” will not be disappointed. - Sistah Tasha

With her debut novel, Mary E. Gilder did an excellent job introducing the characters and their relationships to each other in A Misrepresentation of Myself. Zolla was strong in her professional world, but not in complete control of her personal life. She appeared to have it all, but was lacking in one of the most important areas–her relationship with her husband. Maxwell Garrison stepped in and appeared to be able to offer Zolla the life she desired, and more importantly, the attention she wanted and desperately needed. But, in the end, it was Maxwell who made the ultimate decision. Each person who reads this novel can definitely relate to and compare it to her own relationship or marriage. This book was a joy to read, and I look forward to reading her second novel this year. - Sistah Deniece

Charisse Tyson seems to have it all—a great job, a dream car, and a McMansion in High-and-Mightyville. She has it all-except for the Mister. As she faces another holiday season alone, she reads a magazine article that prompts her to evaluate her past relationships. For me, this is where the laughter begins and never ends.

I must admit that the first three chapters were a little difficult to read. There were so many adjectives that I forgot what the nouns were; but, once you get to chapter four, you are in for a treat!

K.L.Brady gives you reality checks in laugh-out-loud scenarios. I could identify with, as well as see my friends and family in her characters. The conversations and situations were realistic and believable. There were a few grammatical errors, but they did not affect the readability of the novel. I can’t wait to find out what Charisse is going through now! -  Sistah Tashmir

WOW… Fantabulous!!! This was a powerful, stirring testimony of the works of God. Nobody but God could have taken heartache, chaos, and confusion and turned it into a story about dedication, triumph, and restoration.

In the beginning, I was frustated and confused while reading Divine Madness because I did not know where the story was going. I had difficulty with the pronoun usage, and I kept trying to figure out who was talking. Originally, I had no understanding of the characters; it was as if some information had been left out. As I continued reading, I got hooked around page 30. But, then I was blindsided by new characters, so I had to keep reading to confirm my suspicions. The more I read I realized that the author started with the middle, gave the beginning, and I had to keep reading to find out the ending.

Sonya’s unshakeable and unbreakable faith in God left me in awe. Shelle did a great job keeping this reader’s attention by not divulging all of the information at the beginning of the novel. The character development was excellent. I am so accustomed to knowing the characters’ history and personality once they are introduced, but she gave bits and pieces to keep the reader hanging on. I never even anticipated the ending! No ifs, ands, or buts… This is a must read. - Sistah Rita
