How would you describe Dr. Moe?
I wouldn't because the haters come out when I do and say, "She ain't like that." However, for you I will say Dr. mOe is a mOm of two young men first and foremost, life long writer/reader, speaker, and someone who loves to have fun!
When did you know you wanted to write? What or who inspired you?
I've always loved writing since my hand could grasp a big, fat red pencil. My love of language and ability to express my ideas with words is a gift from God. My parents nurtured my creativity. My Mom is a great writer.
Do you have a special ritual that gets you in the mood to write? Do you have a special writing space?
I write in my home office or in bed, on my lap top, if it's late at night. My ritual is donning a raggedly pair of boxer shorts and a tank top. I wear different color tanks depending on what type of scene I'm writing. I wear the tight, purple one to write love scenes. LOL
Tell your fans about your highly anticipated release I Stand Accused? What or who was your inspiration for this work?
I Stand Accused is a suspenseful and funny saga about the Adams family of Jefferson, Texas. The main character is Dr. James Adams who is a single, sexy, and celibate eye doctor. When he was 17, his father was murdered and he became head of household for his 8 siblings and depressed mother. He's had that role ever since but now the family ties are strangling him. In order to find personal fulfillment and true love, he has to let his people go (I crack myself up sometimes) and solve the mystery of his father's death.
On your website, you noted that you are the host and producer of a weekly tv-show, Perpetual Moe-tion? Give us the details.
?
I no longer do the program but I had my own program on AT&T Cable which is now Time Warner. I interviewed local and national celebrities from politicians to music groups. Loved it but it was so much work and I was practicing dentistry full-time, raising a family, writing a weekly column for a major daily newspaper, and volunteering in the community....something had to give. It was great experience for when I give interviews related to my books, as well. Now, I know how hard it is to be the interviewer.
What are your other contributions to the literary world?
I have written two nonfiction books: Black English Vernacular from Ain't to Yo Mama and Mom, Are We There Yet? I have written an Essence bestselling novel, When A Sistah's Fed Up. I have also contributed poetry and short stories to several anthologies. Excerpts and ordering information are on my website, www.drmoeanderson.com
In the world of writing, who inspires you? Who would you like to work with?
?
J. California Cooper, Gloria Naylor, Toni Morrison, Walter Mosley, Zora Neale Hurston and many others for the quality of their writing, their longevity, and their resilience in a world that is not always kind to African-American writers. I'd like to work with Dr. Maya Angelou. She is all that and so positive.
As a motivational speaker, do you have any favorite or special topics you enjoy presenting? If so, why?
I enjoy talking about life balance, communication, and the medical benefits of humor. I can tailor a message on many subjects for almost any audience, however. I speak to corporations, national conferences, civic/social groups, and universities. On my website is a link to a youtube demo video of me speaking at several different venues. There is also a list of topics I do most often as well as some of the groups I've addressed. I really love public speaking!
What advice can you give aspiring authors and women entreprenuers?
Don't quit. Surround yourself with positive and encouraging people. Trust God. And as Shirley Caesar says, "Stop telling God about your problems. Tell your problems about your God."
What can your fans expect from you in the future?
I'm working on a motivational book with two phenomenal African-American women: an attorney and a tenured professor. After that, it's back to novels with suspense, laughs, and love.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that you wouldn't normally tell others (we call this the Sistah Secret at our site meetings)
I have trouble sleeping without Bear. He's my 10-year-old stuffed animal. But don't tell nobody.
