EKG Literary Magazine
INTERVIEW . . .

If you could only use one word to describe your magazine, what would it be?

INNOVATIVE. We believe that we’ve taken the thrill of a print magazine and brought it to the web in a format that reminds the reader that EKG Literary Magazine is MORE than just a website! :)

How did EKG Literary Magazine get started?

Our owners, Ebony Farashuu, Zaria Garrison, and Kelli Little, have always been interested in launching a website dedicated to the literary arts. Our first venture, Private Library, a collection of soap opera like short stories did not take off because we lacked the marketing skills and time it took to maintain such a site. That domain sat there, empty and unused for about three years. Zaria Garrison approached us with the idea of putting together an online magazine and we were all immediately excited! With a little more marketing and management experience under our belts, we carefully laid out our plans and EKG Literary Magazine was born!

Who's involved in EKG's publication?

The EKG Staff consists of author and staff writer, Zaria Garrison; author and staff writer, Ebony Farashuu; Editor-in-Chief, S.K. Poole; and Web designer, Kelli Little. We also have dedicated reviewers on staff, Toni Alexander, Miriam Davis-Bradford, D. Stylz, Jada Temple, and Terri Williams. We are currently looking for up and coming writers who are willing to trade literary articles for experience and a by-line.

What's your overall goal and purpose for your magazine?

EKG Literary Magazine is dedicated to enlightening as well as entertaining ALL members of the literary community. We want our articles and interviews to be helpful and thought provoking to keep our readers happy!

EKG is very informative with a creative flare! Give us the details on your monthly features.

Each month EKG features an interview with a best-selling author, a book club spotlight, book reviews, and our Book Club pick of the month. We also include articles to assist writers in pursuing their craft as well as articles that will have readers thinking, laughing, and pondering their favorite books. We also like to spotlight websites that we feel can be helpful to both readers and writers as they attempt to wade through the sea of information and books out on the web!

EKG has been publication for months, and I bet it's been a journey! Have there been any surprises on the road? Any sweet spots?

Boy, have there been surprises! The biggest surprise has been the difficulty we’ve had in getting advertisers. Especially with the caliber of authors we have had on our cover! Which brings me to the sweetest of all sweet spots! In the beginning, we were actively pursuing authors to feature on our cover! Now, we have top authors coming to us, ASKING to be featured! It’s a thrill to know that authors are reading our magazine and are impressed with what they have seen!

How did you establish the name, EKG?

EKG is named for our owners, Ebony Farashuu, Kelli Little, and Gena Garrison. In the literary field, Gena is known as Zaria Garrison.

What's in EKG's future?

The Future of EKG Literary Magazine is wide open. We hope to expand our magazine to include more writers, more pages, more advertisers, and partnerships with publishing companies that allow us to present their authors and latest releases to the masses! We are striving to become a magazine that will be enjoyed by ALL book lovers covering all genres! We want to be the PULSE of the literary industry!
