Initially, it was extremely difficult reading this novel. As a mother of teen girls, the subject matter of forced teen prostitution was hard for me to embrace. However, as I kept reading, I started to see more of the author’s vision and less of the delivery. The novel was very descriptive and made the scenes believable. Allison was able to demonstrate the human psyche and a broken spirit through her words. I felt so endeared to these girls and even had a better understanding of their captor by the end.
